Welcome to Busy Bee Learning!
Busy Bee Learning was established to give parents, teachers
and other professionals more ways of integrating American Sign Language (ASL) into their everyday lives. We know
children learn best through play so we set out to create a variety of puzzles and other products that reinforce the teaching
and learning of ASL and English, while engaging adults and children in a fun learning experience.
Our
products promote:
- Bonding time between
caregiver and child
- Activates both hemispheres
of the brain as a result of ASL
- Enhances vocabulary
and reading skills
- Provides your child with a
second language
- Is said to increase IQ scores
- Allows the entire family to learn ASL, too!
All of the above benefits are because of American Sign Language – a beautiful
visual-spatial language that is enjoyed not only by the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing population, but Hearing and Special Needs
children as well! Did you know? Did you know that American Sign Language is not just for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing
population? In fact, research has shown ASL offers a multitude of benefits for typical hearing children and children with
a variety of special needs as well! Below is a list of those who can benefit from ASL and as a result, have often made
great advances in their ability to communicate using sign language. - Autistic
- Down Syndrome
- LLD (Language Learning Disabled)
- Cerebral Palsy
- Communication
Impairments
- Apraxia
- Other medical issues impacting communication and development
By using ASL,
you are providing your child with a multi-sensory learning appraoch. You might be wondering, what does "multi-sensory"
mean? Sign Language allows one to tap into multiple senses at one time. For example, when using sign language with children
who have normal hearing, your child can see the sign, hear the word being said, and physically
produce the sign. This type of approach is very beneficial to us all because we no longer are using one sense (hearing)
to communicate. Instead, sign language gives children multiple ways to learn words to enhance communication. Using
a multi-sensory approach with special needs children is very important.

“As a mom and former Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing educator,
I met many parents over the years who had not learned to use sign language – a language their children relied on. Parents
were unable to communicate fully with their children, and struggled to find the time to sit and learn ASL. I too, found
there to be a lack of hands-on, engaging educational products. I wanted to have additional ways of integrating ASL into the
everyday activities of my children and my students while giving parents the ability to play and bond with their children while
they too, learn ASL through our products. As a result, “Busy Bee Learning” was created. We believe where there
is fun and play, there is learning.
